Harry Bergal, 89, of Duluth passed away, Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at St. Mary's Medical Center.

 

He was born on Sept. 16, 1920 to Alex and Elizabeth (Fishman) Bergal in Duluth.

 

He married Ruth Seftz in Proctor, Minn., during a snow storm on Dec. 21, 1941. The couple was married for a very happy 68 years. He was a United States Army Air Force veteran of World War II. As a Corporal he trained B-17 crew chiefs in Hobbs, New Mexico.

 

Harry was a partner at Alex Bergal and Sons Meat Market in Duluth. He was a very respected realtor with Emerald Realty and a partner in Overman Company and Coldwell Bankers Preferred Realty during his many years as a realtor.

 

Harry was a member and former board member of Temple Israel in Duluth as well as Temple Solel in Paradise Valley, Ariz. He was also a member of the Add Shrine's Dunn Buggy Patrol and the Lake Avenue Loafers. He was a former member of both Northland and Ridgeview Country Clubs in Duluth. He was an avid bowler and golfer, on several occasions his golf score matched his age. He was the very happiest when he was golfing with his friends or spending time with his family.

 

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 68 years, Ruth and his brother, Phil Bergal.

 

He leaves behind his sister, Freda Mark of Huntington Beach, Calif.; his daughter, Lonna Rae (Jerry) Silverman of Richardson, Texas; his son, Lyle (Lynn) Bergal of Duluth; his wonderful grandchildren, Erin Silverman of Glendale, Ariz., Lauren Bergal of Duluth, Alex Bergal of Duluth, Laura (Adam) Haberman of Garland, Texas and his great grandson, Jacob Haberman; nieces, Joyce (Michael) Ordun of Maryland and family; Judy Sobel of California; Phyllis (Warry) Shoemaker and family of Mesa, Ariz.; his nephew, Marvin (Doris) Bergal and family of Aztec, New Mexico; his cousins, Jenny Bergal and family of Duluth; Barbara Sue (Bob) Howard of Minnetonka, Minn.; Elliott Silberman and family of Duluth; Harry and Terri Cohen of St. Louis Park, Minn.; Dione Kempinsky of Century City, Calif.; Cheryl (Michael) Stich of Palos Verde, Calif., and dearest friends, Steve and Virginia Hahn of Scottsdale, Ariz.

FUNERAL SERVICE: 11 a.m. today, Friday, May 21, 2010 in Temple Israel, 1602 E. 2nd Street in Duluth. Interment will be at the Shaara Tzedek Cemetery following the service at Temple. Arrangements by the Dougherty Funeral Home, Duluth 727-3555.
